Creating a local market for customers to stop in daily for their needs, and specialty diet/items. The idea of The Fresh Market was once great. They would approach us as managers, and they didn't care one bit about out staff outside of are they showing up, and be sure to cut hours where you can. They come into the store and crucify everything in the store, but never speak directly to the staff. The management outside of the store (regional/corporate) only look at numbers. Several of my team members lost HUNDEREDS of vacation hours because when the policy changed they were denied time off in some cases which prevented them from gaining their time off. One year they changed the vacation terms and stopped rolling over. We had managers working 60 hours a week, and were denied vacations when they tried to take them. I was in an upper management position, and have since moved on, but I can empathically say after 10 years in retail the Fresh Market is the worst company I've ever worked for, and it's not close. You get the Fresh Market nearly every year for the last 10 years. he has driven moral so far in the ground that nuking it wouldn't dig it out.
our customers know and complain regularly about the store manager who treats customers and employee`s like dirt. there are to many slackers and rumor spreading babies here now and there driving customer service in the ground.
this company doesn't pay what people are worth there squeezing every Pennie to open 100 more stores ( which by the way how you treat people and pay people you wont last in the northeast) so they can impress investors, more than likely there going to sell it for the stock value, before the fresh market went public it was a great place to work in. this store since i have been here has had a massive employee turnover with at least 3/4 of them collecting unemployment.
management (not all ) treats you like dirt constantly threatening you with write ups or lose of your job, another labor law violation is if you call out sick or you just cant make it in and you call out 2 times in a month you will loose your job. for example letting you work overtime when management gets scared when the district managers are coming or some one calls out sick then they " need you to fill in " then at the end of the week its you have to give back the overtime, they tell people when they can and cant go to lunch, if you do have overtime you need to take a 2 hour lunch, this is a labor law violation. this place violates so many labor laws its disgusting.

I was there until almost mid night trying to figure out how to close the department BY MYSELF, the department manager turned off her phone and was unresponsive to the store managers and other associates. The turnover is CRAZY and I quickly understood why, there was one shift where I was the only one that showed up to close, everyone else had called out and one person had recently quit. The managers from the department managers to the store managers have NO CLUE how to do the tasks they require of you, I guess that's problem number one! I wish I was exaggerating about that but not only was I NOT TRAINED and literally just thrown out on the floor to work with no training OR guidance but because everyone in the department knew different things it was challenging to get consistent help because not everyone knew the different aspects of the job, including the department manager. However when I got into the interview I was told they would not be able to offer full-time right away, I accepted the job offer anyway and that was the worst choice. For me I applied to one of two full-time positions they listed online the other positions were all part-time. Well I didn't research the company prior to accepting job offer, otherwise I would've seen the NUMEROUS press write-ups, lawsuits (ranging from shareholders to mistreated employees and EVERYONE in between), and their first place ranking on USAToday's "Worst Companies to Work For in America"! That alone covers it all about this company.
